IMO banner advertising is good for one thing... branding and name recognition. Internet surfers have evolved and become smarter over the past ten years. They've learned to passively skip over common ad formats like banners and Adsense.

The banners ads are traceable. You never know if any other person other than the Internet is reading your ad. Well with a banner that really know if people read it or not. Not only can you see how many times a page looks but also about other customer response statistics such as click through rates.
