Anthony Morrison started Christmas for Kids because he wanted underprivileged children to experience the joys of the holiday season, and he has managed to help many of them get gifts on one of the most important days of the year. It’s a non-profit organization that doesn’t ask people for any financial donations. Every gift is paid for by Anthony and his companies, and its purpose is to give young people a chance to know what it feels like to help someone who is less fortunate. If you live in the Madison/Ridgeland area, we would love for you to volunteer your time during the Christmas Holidays. These children need your compassion, and they deserve love from those who have been blessed in their lives.
In 2006, Anthony saw something that changed his life, and it still brings a tear to his eye – even to this day. He was walking through the mall, and he saw an Angel Tree that still had quite a few of them left – even though it was only a few days before Christmas.
The experience hit him hard, so he asked someone what would happen to the children who weren’t lucky enough to get what they wanted. They told him that they usually wouldn’t get anything. And if they did, they would get leftover toys that no one else wanted. The thought of that upset him. So, he took all the angels from the tree, and he went out to buy gifts for every single one of those kids.
Since he only had 24 hours to buy gifts for 23 kids, he realized that he couldn’t do it by himself. So, he recruited the help of his brother and a few of his friends. Many of them gave up their Friday night of partying to buy gifts for kids that they didn’t even know, and Anthony was amazed by how serious they took the entire process.
Everyone who got involved that night said that it was the best part of their holiday. And while it was a crazy night, they were able to get every single kid exactly what they wanted (with even a few extras). All of them took the time to buy gifts for 23 kids, and they paid attention to every single detail. Anthony believes that moments like this can change a person’s life for the better, and he thinks that everyone should have the opportunity to know what it feels like to help someone who is less fortunate.
Anthony wants everyone to have their chance to give back, but he realized that finances can be an issue for many of them. Your time is just as important as your money, so you shouldn’t let it hold you back. Everyone who got involved that night got something positive from the experience, and all of them have a new appreciation for what they have. Anthony hopes that young adults will have a chance to give back, so they can know what it feels like to help those who are less fortunate.
